Trio Flux Celebrates CD Release at The Secret Society May 23rd with Special Guests Trio Subtonic and Mary Flower.

PORTLAND, OR

Trio Flux hits the stage on Thursday, May 23rd at The Secret Society Ballroom to celebrate the release of the band’s second album, a collaborative effort entitled Möbius. On the heels of the album’s successful Kickstarter funding campaign, Trio Flux will perform the record in its entirety, in addition to new material and choice selections from their first release.

Trio Flux adeptly moves through funky grooves, dark and distorted rock gestures, and twangy free-jazz improvisations with a focus on musical dialogue amongst members: Neil Mattson, guitars, Julio Appling, bass, and Adam Ochshorn, drums.

The trio will be joined in this performance by many special guests who appeared on the record, including the award-winning blues guitarist Mary Flower, tenor saxophonist Marc Hutchinson (Trixy & the Nasties, Darrell Grant’s Jazz Bridge Project), trumpeter James M. Gregg (Rubberneck, Jesus Presley, West Riding), and keyboardist Jake Savage (Oshe, Addiction Dream).

Trio Subtonic opens the night with a set of groovy soul-jazz. Trio Subtonic has made their mark on the Northwest’s independent and jazz music scenes, crafting three albums’ worth of original compositions by its family members: on keys, Galen Clark, on bass, Bill Athens, and on drums, Jesse Brooke.

Here we go! After many weeks of preparation, we are really excited to announce the launch of our very first Kickstarter campaign. Kickstarter is a “crowd-funding” platform that connects ambitious and innovative projects to their supporters. It is really easy to get involved just follow the link, watch the video, and share with your friends and family! With this project we hope to raise the funds to complete our new CD. A of right now we have laid the foundation of work to achieve our goal of producing a studio recording of the highest quality. Most of the songs have been recorded but this is only the first step. In order to complete this CD we must start the next phase of production which includes mixing, mastering, graphic design, and duplication. Everyone involved is really excited to get back to work. Studio time is booked.  Fundraising campaign is coming together so stay tuned!  Last night we rehearsed with some of the auxiliary  members: Marc Hutchinson, James M. Gregg, and Andrew Oliver.  Janaka and Chris Jayawardena were there to shoot some candid rehearsal video.  Last week I met with Mary Flower who will be also be a part of the project. It has been more than 2 years since we recorded the first CD and the band has made tremendous strides.  All in all, a very exciting time for the band!

We are back at the Camellia Lounge this Friday, March 2, 2012, 9pm (details).  This show was originally supposed to be our Kickstarter campaign kickoff party, but the campaign announcement has been postponed as we work out the logistics for our upcoming record.  Instead, we are excited to debut our 3-part rock suite for soprano electric guitar!  This piece has been really fun to put together and record. We will be releasing “Witar Suite” (as we call it) as a digital download on Bandcamp.com.  Right now we are in the mixing phase so it should be available in April 2012.

Also, on Friday we will be joined by Marc Hutchinson on tenor sax.  Marc is an awesome talent and he really brings energy and exceptional musicianship to the bandstand.  It’s going to be a great show and we can’t wait!

Trio Flux is back at Barile’ Wine & Beer this Friday (12/2) appearing as Acoustic Flux (our string-band alter ego).  Our first go at the acoustic format back on October 7th was a big hit with our fans and the venue so we’ve decided to do it again.  Acoustic Flux is Neil on acoustic guitar, Julio on upright bass, and Adam on brushes.  The textural change is fun and gives us a chance to reinterpret our repertoire, and dust off some of the acoustic Frisell we’ve kept in our book since the Trio Flux Plays Frisell gig back in 2010.  Barile’ is a very inviting, intimate venue on NE Fremont. The owners, Tim & Debbie, are wonderful hosts and dedicated supporters of the arts. The atmosphere is inviting and warm, the food and wine are delicious, the music will be exceptional!!  This is a free show (details).
